The Open Door Service Center idea began in 1970, as several area churches sought ways to work together to help individuals and families who had "fallen through the cracks" of the system.

Ministries of Open Door Service Center
The Thrift Shop was the first of the ministries to be formed. It was founded in the beginning with an all volunteer staff as a way of allowing low income individuals to retain their dignity as they and the general public shop together. The Thrift Shop is stocked with good donated clothing and household items at very low prices.

The proceeds from the Thrift Shop help pay the salaries and operating expenses of the Open Door Ministry.

A Benevolent Ministries office was crested in 1994. Many residents of Pettis County come each month for assistance in meeting their basic need in the following areas: food, shelter, clothing, utilities, transportation, medical, work related and many other areas. We offer assistance in any area that will keep individuals from becoming unemployed, homeless or losing their dignity.

Open Door communicates with area churches and other agencies to help coordinate the meeting of these needs in the most efficient manner possible.

A cooperative ministry of the Sedalia – Pettis County Missouri churches engaging in
charitable welfare activities of every kind and nature.
